In life one learns the rules to play the game. In art one plays the game to learn the rules.

For me, a painting must always be positive and optimistic. It must communicate on a universal level as an uplifting element of nature or fine music. Surprise and elation are all that is worth trying for.

It is the function of the artist to search the conscious and unconscious for the languages of tomorrow - to drag from the depths of his being all that gleams with his personal truth, and so perpetuate its existence in the hope that it may enrich and enhance the future state of man.

As an artist I am perpetually involved in the discovery and development of a highly complex grammar, the translation of which is not merely from the thought to the visual but also the instinctive and intuitional into thought.

The golden rule in art is that there isn’t one.

I NEVER DATE A PAINTING

It is my firm belief that the work of art must stand and communicate in its own right. Its date of creation is unimportant as It should, as far as possible, always speak of what is totally new to the viewer. It is this freshness that will nourish the awareness of mankind towards a higher quality of life. This means that not only should it rise above temporal classification (with its attendant comparisons and prejudices), it should project new universals, thereby transcending this illusion of measured existence that man has called 'time'.

These galleries hold a small selection of some of the paintings (sold and unsold) produced by me over the last fifty years.
